Suspended floors can be insulated by entering either the cellar or crawl space via an existing hatch or creating a new one and laying mineral wool or other types of insulation between the floor joists. This prevents cold air entering the room above and stops drafts between floorboards. It also prevents any warmth from the room above from sinking.
